Let's Talk About How We Diagnose and Treat Mild Autism — Part II: Treatment
Treatment for mild autism, sometimes referred to as Level 1 ASD, or as Asperger's Syndrome, requires as much clinical precision as treatment for more severe presentations, even if the outward challenges look different. Children with mild autism often struggle most in the social and organizational domains: navigating peer relationships, managing sensory sensitivities, and coping with transitions and unexpected change. Effective treatment typically includes social skills training, cognitive-behavioral strategies for anxiety, and parent coaching. ABA therapy may also play a role, particularly in building organizational and adaptive skills. Autism Centers of Pittsburgh provides individualized treatment planning for the full range of autism presentations.
